I enjoyed reading this. Thank you! Have you ever written about "Sealioning"? It is a term that I have just discovered.
"Sealioning refers to the disingenuous action by a commenter of making an ostensible effort to engage in sincere and serious civil debate, usually by asking persistent questions of the other commenter. "
Not yet. There are so many disinformation techniques to combat so I'm working my way through them! Meanwhile, here's the cartoon that gave birth to the term, http://wondermark.com/1k62/
As you can see, I'm all for badgering bad faith people with persistent questions. but the defining characteristic of "sealioning" is the inquisitor's disingenous insistence that they alone are the source of all truth. Undercutting their self-awarded authority is how you respond to a sealioner. Basically ask, "who died and made you judge, jury and executioner on this topic?"
I have a friend on FB who does exactly that. When she comments on my posts, I try to not even engage because there is quite literally no winning any sort of argument with her. She will just keep on and on, go in circles, try to make you feel like an idiot, and repeat the same 💩. She has to have the last "say" in everything.
Every time I read about the lunatic responses of Fox "news" and all the True Believers (I live in Arizona and they are everywhere!), I just...don't understand how they can believe all those demonstrably false things and say all those obviously dangerous things. It sounds terrifying to insist that they explain and validate their claims, but I expect it's the only way to cope.
Why do you refer to the DOJ as being ‘long delayed’? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to prosecute a former president? You are no better than MAGA.
Thank you for providing a solution. That is rare. We need answers not just complaining.
